Is an Apocalyptic Earthquake Impending?

Secular writers are beginning to use the word apocalyptic to quote events such as we are looking with earthquakes, fires, floods, tornadoes and now volcanoes. From the beginning of time, these events have all the time been a fact, but we are looking them with increased frequency and intensity in the past decade.

So as not to be illiterate, we should note what the all-time best-seller says. The Bible quotes Christ's response to his disciples' question about "the end of the world." Christ said we would hear of wars and rumors of wars and that alll these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet, For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there shall be famines and pestilences and earthquakes in diverse places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Matthew 24:3,6-8.

Earthquake & Tsunami In Japan

An overlooked event at the beginning of the Apocalypse is probably an earthquake that divided "the things which [John saw], and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter." Revelation 1:19. Verse 11 shows Christ as "Alpha and Omega, the first and the last." Using the first use of the word "trumpet" that startled John (verse 10), we find "trumpet" in Exodus 19:13,16,19 when the mountain shook in a mini-Judgment Day scenario--a confrontation with God in what seemed a life or death situation.

The book of Revelation also describes the last of seven churches as materialistic with a lukewarm Christianity like we have today. Christ wanted them hot or cold. He said he would "knock." It's a fact of history that the church of Laodicea ended in an earthquake that destroyed the city circa 63 Ad. Was that t type with us as the antitype?

"The day of the Lord" is a phrase used in the Old Testament. Any passages link it with an earthquake, Isaiah 2:12,21; Joel 2:10,11; Zephaniah 1:8,10; Zechariah 14:1,5. The apostle Paul reminds us that the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night with sudden destruction. 1Thessalonians 5:2,3.

Paul reminds us that when God took Israel from calamity in Egypt to a ageement relationship at Sinai, those events were types for the end-time. All those things happened to them for examples [orypes] and they are written for our admonition upon whom the ends of the world are come. 1Corinthians 10:1,11.

The key point the for America, professing "In God We Trust," is that if our material things are destroyed in an earthquake, we should not focus on how we can rebuild. We should rather ask ourselves, Is God in this photograph somehow? If so, what does He want from us? Israel's history suggests that He wants a relationship with us as He had with Israel when He took them from calamity in Egypt to Sinai where they made a ageement with Him. He later said, "I am married unto you," Jeremiah 3:14.

Making such a ageement may be an overlooked context of Christ's wedding parables that seem so distinct from each other. But they also sustain an impending calamity. The "midnight cry" in Matthew 25:6 is associated to calamity in Egypt by the Rule of First Use cited above. That calamity bears a message, "the bridegroom comes!" Taking a page from history, we should expect that He seeks a ageement relationship that we should initiate.

Nothing is great than marriage if we are ready, but nothing is worse if we aren't. Our qoute is that we haven't been thinking about it. Maybe we should. If and wehen an earthquake (bigger than any so far) hits America, our response should be biblical--

"Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly; get the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, get the children...Let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep in the middle of the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare your people, O Lord." This is the context of an earthquake initiating "the day of the Lord," Joel 2:10-17.

Summary: An earthquake may be impending. If one occurs that is unprecedented, we should recall what the Bible teaches and seek a ageement relationship with God. He will be glad to respond, but He will test our responses, as marriage tests us.

Frequency Pollution and Human Earthquake Detection

Many believe that with all the technology that surrounds us that there is so much energy in different frequency ranges unnaturally so many that there are problems with the human brain, and then the free radicals in the body. We have all the possible problems with the phone in the microwave frequency bands, and even if the amount of energy is so low is that it is probably not a good thing. Especially if someone pushes you over 500 minutes a month, there will be an effectheating in the brain easily.

But the phones are really low compared to all types of energy we are bombarded with all the days of our civilization. Remember, when the tsunami and earthquake in Indonesia? Remember, all the animals sensed something and ran away because he knew it? Even the old Indian tribes in some islands, which would have nothing to do with modern civilization run, how they know? Well, maybe they felt the ultra-lowFrequency rumble of the earth. But why do not we?

Earthquake & Tsunami In Japan

Well, one answer is that we evaluate how much pollution around us, that both our distorted energy fields around us, and we use it, we no longer believe that these things are like animals. Some people, many Indian tribes, but we seem to lose these skills, you need to see? Think about this.

The earthquake, the Washington Ate!

Sorry, I'm kidding - DC is still there, eating the economy

Happy Labor Day, Mr. President! If you are a "radical change" in America, he promised his brother, were not exaggerated. They are moving heaven and earth! Well, the Earth anyway. In fact, only some of the world (who knew DC was able to earthquake?). In fact, I think you said the other day that "shovel ready" rather than shovel-ready as we thought.

Earthquake & Tsunami In Japan

So what are on the move again?

Non-employment, I believe that: ALabour is, the relationships, only half of the jobs created in July we thought were actually created - but more than a stir, not a single job was created in America in August. Wow ... This is a new record! It has never happened in U.S. history, since the monthly monitoring began in 1945! The President must be proud, because world records are difficult to obtain, and because this is undoubtedly a radical change. A professional golfer featured recently noted, in essence, "President Obama has played moreGolf, as I have this month ... and I have more jobs created this month. "

Do not move the economy is, I know - at least not in a positive direction. In August, many economic premieres: We had the first downgrade in our debt history, we have increased our debt to print the highest ever since the Fed's unprecedented two full years of continuous zero-interest (and has promised more money in the most soon as possible would be), and the stock market has been one of the most volatile month in its history asAnd 'the brink of an accident. Other records smashed! You go, Mr. President!

And foreign policy? Let's just say it's been years (three), as any movement in the American diplomatic objectives, was to deny nuclear weapons to Iran or standing up to Chinese assertiveness.

I get it. Obama, as he had promised during the election campaign three years ago, moving the nation from the highest position in the world, as a strong, free market economy of the Republic (where people have the courage to start aBusiness-building opportunities and wealth creation), back in the ranks of non-collectivist countries that have done exceptional work of Boffo the world for most of its history.

They remember the shirts, we've seen a lot in 2008, said: "January 20, 2009 - Last day of Bush's" successful candidate Obama has the majority of us dream of that happy day. On that happy day, gas was $ 1.84, unemployment was around five percent, the national debt was 10 billion and below, and weeven a triple-A. So, in his third day of work in office, Obama can be proud of the fruits of their work, and note that the "radical change" is undeniably going to think about.

California seismologists observe the fear of "San Andreas Fault," because the earthquake that we can bring a lot of damage. President Obama speaks of "Bush's fault", which apparently caused the earthquake unlikely to DC last year ... even if the current president ofPolicy that're all this damage.

California Earthquake Next?

Well it seems as if we have had our share of Natural Disasters in the Summer of 2005, with the Gulf Coast flattened, New Orleans Flooded and still more Hurricanes to come. Can it categorically get any worse? Well with ocean temperatures in the Gulf just one or two degrees below 90 degrees, you can bet any Hurricane entering the Gulf of Mexico under any force with room to run, will come to be very large very fast. We should therefore expect at least two more large Hurricanes in the Gulf during the remainder of the 2005 Hurricane Season.

But Hurricanes are not the only disaster we worry of in our civilization. Earthquakes come without warning and depending on the type of fault and size can destroy much more than a Hurricane and in only a concentrate of minutes. Is California, Oregon or Washington State next? Some Geologists say it is. One modern description shows South Vancouver Island is ready to go North of Seattle. Other scientists and self-proclaimed Earthquake prediction experts predict a strong Earthquake between September 18 and 28 and there are any all saying the same thing. Although California has strict construction codes, there are 8700 masonry buildings, which are predicted to fall in a 7.5 or greater quake. Some 900 Hospitals are said to not be able to withstand a 7.5 or greater. If you think Hurricane Katrina was a problem, you have not seen whatever yet, say Earthquake experts.

Earthquake & Tsunami In Japan

What makes the September dates so likely? Why the predictions now? Well the self proclaimed Earthquake predictors often site many things. For instance; The changes in the resonance of salt and fresh water during high seas from storms. Currently there are 3 Hurricanes in the Pacific off the Coast of Mexico. They also site the modern solar flares due to sunspot 798 and the many X-flares recently, even though we are suppose to be in the middle of a solar minimum. This combined with the storm surges on plates thru water weight can be problematic in them selves. The later weeks of September is also a time of the Harvest Moon which changes things as well. One thinker recommend that the Earth's core has a 400-700 year cycle of one supplementary rotation more than the rest of the planet and that the core is not round, which means superplumes can form in a cycle sequence, he equates the old volcanic and seismic performance from old times in those cycles to now. One other principles being floated is that the 1985 Mexico City quake Central and South American quakes important up to it and Volcanic activities of those months is similar to the modern volcanic performance and seismic performance now with three new volcanoes and modern quakes in Peru, Panama, El Salvador and Chile. One scientist discusses infrasound changes, which are not general coupled with a Galactic event just now reaching us. Other commented on the changes in electromagnetic signatures of Earth and exciting of the magnetic pole. Still others discuss the Solar Maximum cycles issues and re-thought of principles and how this might turn North American theories of volcanic cycles. No matter what these people say, they all seem to agree that some thing is going to happen? One even went so far as to ask if all these cycles are converging or even some of them, could they cause specialist cycles triggering seismic events and or volcanic activity?

Whether or not these Earthquake predictors are reality based or not; the question still remains, are we ready for Other big Natural Disaster to our civilization? The last thing we need to do is panic, but man has to ask the question? Think on this.

Shortage of Food, Water, and protection Threatens to Worsen Situation in Haiti

Last week's heavy earthquake in Haiti was one of the most devastating natural disasters of the 21st century. The world has not seen devastation on this scale since the Asian tsunami that struck on Christmas Day in 2004. As the world gathers its resources to help Haiti recover and rebuild they are seeing each step in the rescue process more difficult because the scale of devastation in Haiti is almost unprecedented. While the world has seen equally devastating disasters so far in the 21st century, the devastation is worse in Haiti due to the country's ultimate poverty. Haiti is one of the poorest nations in the world and is the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere, conditions in the country prior to the earthquake served to magnify the destruction and make rescue even more difficult. In the aftermath of the quake, as thousands of aid workers and millions of dollars flood into the country to help, rescuers must battle new problems. A lack of food, fresh water, and shelter for the victims threatens to make the conditions in Haiti worse with each passing day.

Haiti's status as one of the more under-developed nations in the world helped amplify the effects of the earthquake. The Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince was full of neighborhoods of poorly built homes. A lack of safe construction codes and allowable construction materials led to a city full of rickety shacks housing nearly three million inhabitants. When the quake struck, the level of devastation in the capital city was massive. Everything from homes to hospitals and churches, even the Presidential palace, collapsed during the quake. The survivors not only had nowhere to seek shelter in the aftermath, but they had no place to keep the dead. As many of the city's hospitals collapsed, the few remaining buildings that could house population dead or alive were fast overwhelmed. As nations rush in to help the Haitians, they find population living on the street. Living survivors sleep in shabby tent cities with the bodies of the dead lining the same streets. These conditions make the spread of some diseases much easier, threatening to growth the death toll in the aftermath of the earthquake.

Earthquake & Tsunami In Japan

A lack of food and fresh water will composition the terrible living conditions and make the spread of disease and death more swift and efficient. Food and fresh water are near impossible to come by in the aftermath of the earthquake. rescue organizations and aid from other countries are having a tough time to getting into the country. Port-au-Prince's main port was so badly damaged during the earthquake it was impossible in the immediate aftermath of the earthquake to ship in supplies of food and water. Port-au-Prince's airport was also fast overwhelmed, as only one runway remains serviceable to the hundreds of planes trying to land and bring in fresh supplies.

The richest nations of the world are doing all they can to come to the aid of Haiti while trying to help decrease the outbreak of disease, death, and civil unrest. The nations of Europe have pledged a combined 0 million dollars along with aid workers being sent to the country to help in rescue efforts. The United States has sent some 10,000 soldiery to Haiti to help U.N. Peacekeepers already in the country in maintaining order and to help coordinate rescue efforts. American soldiery have taken operate of the airport to coordinate the landing of planes loaded with aid workers and supplies. In addition to the American government's pledge of 0 million, the American social has already donated million to relief organizations. The world cannot rest on its laurels yet, the relief exertion in Haiti will be a long one and if it is to be thriving the world must help Haiti in the advent months and years, not just the next few weeks.

The China Earthquake & Counselling Services

Abstract:

This paper is in response to the work being carried out in China by counsellors in the field. China on May 12th suffered its worse earthquake for 30 years measuring 8 on the Richter scale, causing at this time over 70,000 deaths and millions of people homeless and injured. The Chinese government's response was mostly organized by the Party centrally from Beijing in servicing the immediate needs in the aftermath such as, temporary housing, warmth, food, water and recovery services. The central government sent some scholastic psychologists to the area who were ill equipped to understand the conditions there and surely not trained in valuable Incidence Response. Most of the counsellors were volunteers many with less than one years training and most with no experience of Grief Counselling or Disaster Counselling techniques. The real time for counselling however will be in 6 to 12 months time when Post Traumatic Stress Disorder amongst survivors, rescuers and professionals will start to appear. The purpose of this paper is to help brief those counsellors who have no training or support before being sent to the disaster area.

Earthquake & Tsunami In Japan

Introduction:

All over China many counsellors want to go and show their patriotic duty and help the victims and survivors of the earthquake in Sichuan Province in the South of China. however most of these counsellors are ill-trained and ill-equipped to understand the nature of the disaster or their role in treating those caught up in the disaster area. In response to this in Shanghai I have been briefing groups of counsellors in Grief Counselling adapted to this special situation. In addition to this I am teaching immediate first-aid counselling for professionals. Small or no administration is ready to them in the area and so the only clarification to this is peer group support by having regular meetings to relax personal stress and anxiety. In the following passages I will talk about what we are telling the counsellors before they go to the area - often we only have two hours or less to get ready them.

Grief Counselling as adapted to the Earthquake:

* Grief is the physical, emotional, somatic, cognitive and spiritual response to actual or threatened loss of a person, thing or place to which we are emotionally attached. We grieve because we are biologically willed to attach. (John Bowlby, Father of Attachment Theory)

This quote from Bowlby, sums up the result of grief in a normal setting, however in a disaster where death is everywhere some special thoughts have to be added to the experience of survivors. We can in turn look at the stages of grief and see how they might apply to earthquake victims.

Stage 1: Numbness

At the moment the earthquake happened peoples initial stress reaction is to process the personal threat to one-self. Once survival is achieved the scale of death and destruction is apparent. Most people will at first just feel nothing, they cannot perceive what is happening. Their immediate concern in the aftermath is their close relatives, many who did not survive. For children especially those born under the one baby course - the death of classmates is as productive to their cognition as any other close relative as these relationships often supplanted the normal sibling feelings that are absent in much of Chinese society. Most are standing colse to dazed and bewildered at this time not surely processing any rational thoughts. There were so many after-shocks in the region that some remained in this state for some time vaguely wondering if after surviving the main quake they would be killed in the next one. Despite the paralysis of feelings they never-the-less become highly sensitive to noise and sudden movement causing panic attacks to happen at the slightest changes.

Stage 2: Shock

Once they move out of paralysis their cognitive abilities return and they start to perceive the enormity of the event that has occurred. They go straight through the motions of operation but with Small purposeful use. Disbelief is the most tasteless reaction in which they are questioning the reality of the situation and want to blank out the sights of death and destruction which is all colse to them. The may ask recovery workers what has happened even though it seems inevitable - but they need a verbal conformation of the event. Physically they will be shaking, have labored breathing and an inability to work out even the simplest tasks asked of them such as their name and where they come from.

Stage 3: Anger

As they move out of the shocked state they start to become angry, counsellors are often unprepared for this as they find it hard to understand why man they are trying to help should shout and blame them for their situation or loss. The survivors need man to blame, they often talk about God abandoning them, governments not warning them of the danger in time, recovery workers for not recovery their loved ones, and the counsellors for trying to understand something the survivor believes is impossible for them to have empathy with, when they were not there and lost no-one.

Stage 4: Anxiety

Here the fear of personal survival may make the survivors overly-sensitive to noise, sudden movement and fear of their own death may still be imminent. Each after-shock brings fresh panic attacks and a fear response of personal survival. This sense of sensitivity can be seen even in areas unaffected by the earthquake as far away as Shanghai. For example a shop window shattered in down-town Shanghai a week after the event and all the people close to the incident went into a state of panic. In normal circumstances most people would have only been mildly provocative to see the broken window fall into the street.

Stage 5: Loneliness

Once the initial sense of personal survival has passed then the realization that many are alone without their loved ones hits them very hard. Knowing your wife, husband or child has been killed and you survived brings a yearning for their return. Survivors are at a loss to know what to do next. How will they rebuild their lives, family and home when they are alone now and feelings of abandonment by their loved ones who died oppresses their thinking. Counsellors have to be very comforting to those at this stage and listen carefully to their grief, but to be just not to let the victim become dependent on the counsellor as a substitute for those lost. Counsellors will at some point leave and may inadvertently make the sense of loss and abandonment even worse.

Stage 6: Fatigue

With only temporary shelter, basic food and water most survivors will be feeling emotionally drained and physically beaten. The hunt for the dead, the realization of permanent loss will all bring the man to feelings of utter despair in which the slightest endeavor will defeat their reserves of energy. They will feel and act listless and unable to concentrate, they will have a lack of appetite or eat in a robotic style, and they will also suffer insomnia, troubled, disturbed sleep and nightmares. Their heightened sensitivity means they are constantly scanning the environment for danger and searching for the lost loved ones, even though they know they are now dead.

Stage 7: Yearning

At this time the survivors just want everything back to the way it was prior to the disaster. They find themselves wishing this had not happened and why can it not go back to the way it was. They will convince themselves that dead relatives or friends had somehow survived and will walk colse to the corner and tell them it was all a big mistake and they are alive after-all. This may happen despite splendid evidence to the contrary that their nearest are in fact dead.

Stage 8: Relief (Acceptance)

This stage will take sometime to perform even in the strongest mentally of survivors. To feel some relief that it is all over and they have survived where others did not. Guilt may have to be worked straight through here as they feel that why did they survive when the young, the successful, the good man did not. They may question their own value and self-worth. This is the time for long-term thinking medical as the victim accepts the situation and that the reality of the here and now exist and you have to move transmit and live again. At this stage ritual is very leading - to grieve again at anniversaries, birthdays, holiday times where the grief returns for a moment and recedes again after the event. The central government may have to initially dig mass graves to cope the dead, however in contemporary times they will be numbered and Dna tagged so that in time as relatives can give Dna samples they can recognize the remains of their own dead and so rebury them in the traditional way and so as to start the acceptance stage of the grief processes. These rituals are of great significance to survivors to move on. National days of mourning, events in recognition and other rituals all help the nation to heal and move forward. As this is the year of the Olympics the chance ceremony should be radically changed to honor the dead from the earthquake and treat the events as a sense of respect for the dead and a sign of renewal.

The Children:

Many of the survivors are children who are now homeless, orphans and have witnessed death and destruction for the first time in their lives. Psychologically they too experience the same stages of grief as any adult but unlike grown ups they cannot contend or express their shock and feelings directly. Counsellors here should try to engage the children in meaningful activities to help them express themselves straight through art, drawing and play. To listen carefully but not justify directly to the child their adult comprehension of the event. Under no circumstance should you lie to them. If their parents are dead, tell them directly. Children in some cases can be far more resilient than the adult survivors who can cognitively assess their feelings and sense of loss. Children need to express this in more simple ways in a caring atmosphere with warmth and concentration but not with attachment from the counsellor. Counsellors must be aware at all times they will leave the child at some point and return to their own normal lives. The best situation for children is not therapy but routine. Disposition involves regular sleep and rising times, meals at the same time everyday. They should sleep in small groups of no more than four if possible. They in this way will bond with the other children and not the adults colse to them. Children can be self-supportive in small groups and can help each other in coping with the aftermath. In addition to this Disposition is a return to instruction - even if this is make-shift in tents - the sense of the well-known will help them to feel some normality. Activities such as art expression and paper tearing games can help children of all ages to express their stages of grief to the counsellors and teachers present. Many people colse to China are contribution to adopt children whose parents have been killed but this should be approached with caution as many of these would-be parents are ill equipped to deal with traumatized children who later may design Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder. (I will deal with this is a cut off paper).

The Professionals:

This group consists of those who have found that for the first time they are dealing with mass destruction and death. The soldiers in China have never seen combat, have no experience of real operation in assistance or death. They are an army at peace and most of their time is taken up with civil duties and training. Now in the aftermath of the earthquake they are in the front line assistance in rescuing the victims buried in the remains of apartments, shops, schools and road landslides. Many for the first time are seeing crushed dead people and with horrific injuries in survivors. The initial reaction of the soldiers is fortitude, they are there to do a job, it is their duty to help and help the expert recovery services and health professionals. In addition to the soldiers there are armed police, doctors, nurses, teachers, firemen, infrastructure workers such as electricians, gas workers, and other urgency personnel. Just like the soldiers they are busy doing their duty and carrying out the tasks assigned to them as efficiently as possible. however there is a price to pay for the diligence and retention in their feelings during the immediate crisis. In 6 months to 12 months time the fall-out from these helpers will become apparent. Many will suffer flashbacks in which in the daytime they suddenly dream themselves back in the disaster area and re-living the horrors that at the time they coped with so well. Now however they are starting to fall-apart and find they are suffering from lack of sleep, appetite and concentration. They are now the victims of the earthquake in quite an additional one manner - Ptsd. After 9/11 in the United States many of the traditional urgency workers suffered stress reactions months and months, after their initial involvement in the disaster, in that day of terrorism. however the United States has well organized worker aid Programmes in place to help in the aftermath of valuable incidences such as 9/11. This support surely forestalled many of the cases of Ptsd in the Usa. however here in China the Eap assistance is in its infancy and most government departments have no such support or plans to funds for them. This means in a few months time their will be no real support other than the under-staffed thinking hospitals to cope with the many cases of Ptsd that will surely occur. thinking health problems are seen as shameful in China and many families hide the victims of thinking breakdown and rarely seek help for them in case the neighbors explore their shameful secret. One indirect bonus of the earthquake may in fact be an growth in awareness of psychological services that can be accessed by ordinary people, although the costs in China still preclude most people from seeking help.

The Counsellors:

As I said in the starting most counsellors in China are poorly trained and have Small or no real long term experience of this type of event. In fairness although Western training is longer and more arduous many in the Usa were also not prepared for the fall-out of 9/11. however British counsellors were more likely to have direct experience as terrorist bombings and constant overseas forces operation presents many clients with a variety of valuable incidence events. In China the counsellors particularly need briefing before they go to understand the stages of grief, how they apply to this disaster and how to act with survivors. This can only be achieved if government supports the training both in monetary terms and the political will to support such activities. Sending unprepared counsellors may in fact cause more long term harm than good. Also counsellors need to understand the process of valuable incidence response procedures in debriefing and defusing techniques to help indirect people affected by the quake. While much of this expertise is ready from foreign experts very few University professors in China would have this knowledge and comprehension except second-hand from Western texts. In China most professors in science of mind and counselling are theorists with Small or no practical experience in the field. So while they may give Tv interviews and parrot book passages they are of Small practical use to counsellors who need real hands on guidance and supervision. Counsellors in the earthquake area should have daily peer support as administration by experienced professionals is unlikely to be available. So they should group together each day and discuss worries and cases they have dealt with - seeking guidance and support from each other. This is the best they can perform here and in addition they must eat regularly, sleep when they can and take some light rehearsal every night after they have closed counselling for the day. A counsellor is of no use if they try to act the hero and work long hours with Small rest. Fatigue sets in very swiftly for some counsellors particularly emotionally. They should then withdraw for a time or leave all together as they may then be causing harm straight through a lack of concentration. Some counsellors are mentally ill-equipped to deal with this scale of loss and should withdraw swiftly and perceive there is no shame in not doing the work if you are not mentally strong enough.

In Summery:

I hope this paper will help those in China who are embarking on counselling but have no support or training and to give then some in-sight into the inherent problems and difficulties they may encounter along the way. Many counsellors feel it is their patriotic duty to volunteer their services and feel a sense of duty to their countrymen who at this moment need them. however not every counsellor is strong enough or competent in this tough area of counselling and should think very carefully about going to the earthquake area and maybe breaking down under pressure or plainly by lack of comprehension make matters worse for the survivors than no counselling at all. For most counsellors the work is still to come, as the grief process proceeds for survivors and professionals alike then they will be seeking counsellors to support and treat them in the time to come as Ptsd takes hold of those who could not grieve or survive mentally the after-math of China's huge earthquake which led to such a huge loss of life and property.

Earthquake Predictions - A Wake Up Call

Scientists have to accept their awful defeat because prediction of earthquakes has become tragically tough. Earthquakes of up-to-date years adequately prove this point. Seismic experts are realizing that the response of rocks to strain and seismic waves is more dynamic and complicated than their customary assumptions. In 1910, a geologist by name Henry Fielding Reid of Johns Hopkins University propounded a theory called Elastic Rebound Theory, according to which, rocks along the faults behave like twigs to bend under stress and snap when the stress becomes suited adequate to cross the threshold. When the plates collide against one another, the rocks along faults fetch the strain and when the strain becomes too huge to bear, earthquakes occur to publish the excess strain.

This theory has its roots on strain accumulation and according to experts, it will take many many centuries before the strain accumulation becomes huge adequate to trigger an earthquake. But the up-to-date earthquakes that have occurred did not show any signs of strain accumulation and this goes to prove that the elastic rebound theory does not interpret the mechanism of earthquakes fully.

Earthquake & Tsunami In Japan

The earthquakes of up-to-date times have occurred in short intervals and hence strain accumulation could not have triggered them. In fact, some of the up-to-date earthquakes have occurred in a cluster.

After prolonged research, scientists have proved that the compel of faults lying hundreds of kilometers away gets altered to set off tremors and for this, Landers earthquake in California of 1992 and Sumatra earthquake of 2004 are classic examples. Evidences from San Andreas Fault of Parkfield, California also give contradictory results that dilute the elastic rebound theory. The main point is it is a long way to go before scientists can boast that they can predict occurrences of earthquakes.
