March 11, Japan was struck by a record breaking mega 9.0 earthquake immediately followed by a mega tsunami reaching 40 meters (130 feet). The Japanese port and city of Kesennuma in Miyagi Prefecture suffered some of the most destruction and greatest lost of lives. The first part of the video is shot from a building in the port area and runs at normal speed. The second part of the video was shot from the Coast Guard building near the one in the first part of the video. It was more than 60 minutes long so I speeded it x4 to be able to get it onto YouTube. I have a max 20 minute account. First, the powerful tsunami came in, destroying anything in it's path but very quickly started going out again, sucking everything with it. Many of the missing were probably taken out to sea. Their bodies will never be recovered or will be washed up on the West Coast within a year. Many of the people who were killed by the tsunami were the elderly who didn't have time to escape to higher ground. A school of 100 students lost 77 of them. To date (June 2) 15253 have been killed and another 8593 are officially missing. 24840. 1000 children have lost one or both parents. More than 150000 are still living in evacuation centers. It will take at least five years just to remove the debris. It will take about 20 years for reconstruction. 20 years to get back to where it was before the disasters. Fukushima will take much longer, decades. Japan is also experiencing a level 7 nuclear disaster. TEPCO ...
